This season, most people are rushing, stressing, and powering through December on autopilot.
But the most meaningful gift you can give right now isn’t something you buy — it’s your presence.
In this episode, Ben DeLeon breaks down why attention is the rarest gift of the holidays, how to show up for people who need it, and why slowing down for ten minutes might matter more than anything under the tree.
If you’re ready to bring more meaning (and less chaos) into this season, this one’s for you.

Welcome back to the Unshuck Yourself podcast. We're keeping things seasonal but not sentimental. No hallmark fluff. Just real life, real lessons, wrapped in a little Christmas spirit. I'm your host, Ben Deleon, and today's episode is about something simple, but honestly kind of uncomfortable. The gift we almost never give but desperately need. So let's talk about gifts. Not the stuff you wrap, not the stuff you order on Amazon and hope arise on time. I mean the real gifts. Attention, presence, patience. Think about it. Most people this month are stressed, rushed, distracted, mentally juggling 14 things. And what happens when we get like that? We get short with people. We snap faster, we listen less, we assume more. Basically, we become the worst version of ourselves during a season that's supposed to bring out the best. So here's the twist. The rarest gift you can give this month is not something you buy. It's slowing down long enough to treat people like they matter. Simple. But in practice, not so easy. People talk about being present like it's some mystical talent. But presence is a skill. It takes discipline, especially this time of year. It sounds like this. Hey, I'm here, I'm listening, you have my attention. Not half listening while you're texting, not nodding while you're thinking about the next thing you need to do. I mean actually being there. Think of someone in your life who's been caring a lot this year. A spouse, a friend, a sibling, a coworker who's been pretending they're fine. And now imagine giving them 10 minutes of your undivided attention. Not advice, not solutions, just space. That's a gift more powerful than anything that comes in a bag. This time of year hits people weird. Some are having the best month of their year. Some are secretly struggling. Some are lonely, some are overwhelmed, some are just trying to keep it together until January. But everyone, and I mean everyone, is carrying something. And you never know which conversation is going to be the one that lifts someone's day, or makes them feel seen, or reminds them they're not doing life alone. This is why presence matters. It's the emotional equivalent of showing up with food for someone who hasn't eaten. You don't always know how badly they need it. So here's your homework for this week: something small but surprisingly powerful. Pick one person and give them your full presence. Ten minutes, no distractions, no multitasking, just a real moment. Ask them how they're doing and actually listen to the answer. In the silence, if it comes, let them talk. That's it. You'll be shocked of how big a gift that really is. And as we move through the rest of the month, this is a thread that's going to connect all four episodes. Christmas isn't about more, it's about meaning. And meaning doesn't require much. Just intention. Thanks for spending part of your December with me. If this episode hit home, feel free to share it with someone who might need a reminder that presents is a gift too. I'll see you in episode three, where we talk about Christmas distraction we all fall for and how to avoid it. See you next time.
